As Read Across America was celebrated this past week, many schools, libraries and book stores celebrated the importance of literacy in our lives. Read Across America Week was kicked off with Dr. Seuss Day, an author that wrote over 60 of our children's favorite storybooks. The NEA, National Education Association, sponsors this event every year to motivate children to read and grow a passion in literature. In order to find a good book this weekend and continue Read Across America's literacy program here are some local spots to find your next favorite read:
- Book Exchange - Midlothian Turnpike
Even though, they are due to possibly close soon if new owners do not take over. This is a very popular place for avid readers in the Midlothian area allowing you to trade books you own for some new reads.
- The Little Bookshop - Sycamore Square
A cozy small bookshop where you can find your next favorite book or attend author events/story time.
- Richmond Comix Inc - Midlothian Turnpike
For those who love collectable and an assortment of comics, check this store that has been serving customers in the area since 1987.
- Redemption Books - Stony Point Books
Operated by University of Richmond students that hold a collection of texts on a variety of topics, such as, theology, culture and worldviews. They have a coffee shop and if you are craving some ice cream then there is Gelati Celesti next door.
- Richmond Book Shop - Broad Street
A unique bookshop for those looking for rare reads and posters.
- Fountain Book Store - E Cary Street
Come visit this charming indie bookshop in Richmond City. Open since 1978, this bookshop has some history and it is often that you'll find the shop hosting book signings and events for popular local and nationally renowned authors.
- Chop Suey Books - W Cary Street
With over 45,000 used books you can browse shelves upon shelves for some good reads!
- Chesterfield County Public Libraries - Various Locations
